Campus-Expanding LEED Silver Renovation Project for Educational Facility at Chatham Eastside
As health and science enrollments continued to attract more students, Chatham University came up with a plan to purchase the former East Liberty Eichleah Building at the corner of Penn Avenue and Washington Boulevard. Shortly thereafter, Chatham called on Mosites Construction Company to guarantee a budget and schedule while developing a plan whereby Chatham University could occupy a portion of the building by August in time for classes to resume.
Chatham Eastside was, at the time, the University’s newest academic facility. This LEED Silver renovation project was the first phase of Chatham’s plan to expand their campus to Eastside and the Penn Avenue corridor. The work involved conversion of an office building to an educational facility. Specific efforts were made to use sustainable construction practices. While constructing this new space, recycled materials and energy efficient lighting were used to create an academic facility within a green environment.
Phase II of the project renovated the space for the information technology, psychology, and continuing education departments. Additional space was created for the Center for Entrepreneurship
