Located near the center of campus, Christ the King Chapel is the spiritual heart of Franciscan University of Steubenville for over 50 years. The largest place of worship on campus, hundreds of students flow in and out of its doors every week. This 18,000 SF expansion and renovation combines intentional expansion, deep spiritual design, and strategic funding to uplift Christ the King Chapel as the heart of Franciscan’s campus life. Following a successful year of planning and design efforts, the goal of the renovation is not only to increase the seating capacity from 325 to 500, but to enhance the qualities that have made the chapel a beloved and sacred worship space for the Franciscan community, preserving the intimacy that allows for active and engaged worship. In addition, the project involved the construction of a 14,000 SF exterior plaza to compliment the entrance into the renovated Christ the King Chapel. The project will have masonry site walls, masonry pavers, stairs, a fountain, and site lighting.
