University of Pittsburgh Upper Campus Central Utility Plant
Educational
Currently underway, the new central utility plant will supplement the capacity of three existing campus chiller plants.
The project consists of a new central utility plant, including three generators to serve the Oakland Campus. The new 14,000-ton plant will supplement the capacity of three existing campus chiller plants and provide critical redundancy to support the University's research, academic, and clinical services. The plant will house new energy-efficient chillers and a 5kv substation equipped to serve the plant and future growth on the upper campus. The new piping will distribute roughly a 1/2 mile of gray water, chilled water, and 5kv power to the campus and gray water collection with a capacity of 280,000 GAL.
