To meet the region’s growing demand for healthcare services, UPMC embarked on a mission to build a new six-story hospital just 25 minutes east of downtown Pittsburgh. Mosites Construction Company was hired to provide the building foundations and walls. Scope of work included foundation excavation, highly reinforced cast-in-place caisson caps, grade beams, concrete walls, linear accelerator, elevator mats, concrete piers, stairs, tank farm, crane set reinforcing steel, keyways, and embed plates. Grade beam and wall forms were ganged when possible and temporary shoring was used to stabilize forms during concrete placement. All work required critical coordination planning and constant supervision.
