Mosites has been a part of the WVU Medicine campus for over 11 years. The phased hospital project began with a 105,000 SF modification to the front of the hospital, which involved enclosing existing open areas to create a four-story atrium, adding additional elevators, and providing 70,000 SF of shell space for future needs. The existing facility has long been a recognizable part of the campus, featuring two ten-story patient wings on either side of an open-air courtyard. This new entrance enhances the facility’s presentation to patients and visitors, improving their overall experience and fostering pride in the community’s healthcare services. The parameters of this project required that the existing hospital remain fully occupied, with uninterrupted access and limited space for materials. Medical Center Drive, located approximately forty feet from the construction area, was the only access point to the patient drop-off and parking lots. As a result, Mosites had to ensure that this roadway and all parking spaces remained open and protected throughout the project.
