Mellon Board Room & Terrace

Pittsburgh, PA

Mosites Construction Company was hired by Chatham University to perform an adaptive re-use of their swimming pool building.  Once transformed, a new multi-purpose meeting board room and terrace would emerge.  The bold design required a  handicapped-accessible entrance to serve both the Mellon Board Room and existing Broadcast Studio.  This entrance required significant reconfiguration of the landscape in order to meet the requirements for accessible paths.  The sandstone terrace balustrade and other upper terrace materials were replaced by hand with sturdier limestone.

The lower patio was configured to wrap the building, providing outdoor spaces to compliment the newly adapted facility.  Site grading was lowered to provide natural lighting into the space.

Inside, the Guastavino ceiling and walls were repaired and re-grouted.   New lighting, arch-topped openings, windows, carpeting, and fabric-covered acoustic wall panels were installed along with new mechanical and electrical systems.
