Henderson House

Henderson house

Pittsburgh, PA

One of the first projects to attain Silver Certification with the USGBC in Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University’s Henderson House was completely renovated throughout the 2003 & 2004 school year.  The building’s trademark two stories of fieldstone walls were preserved throughout the renovation process.
Mosites Construction Company demolished the entire building except for the exterior walls, which were braced and pinned in place until the new building interior could be completed and reattached.  An additional floor was added to the residence hall and its common rooms including a fitness room, recreational room, full kitchen, dining/meeting room and television lounge along with a new elevator.  A new sidewalk, gazebo & terrace were also added.
Henderson House is packed with energy efficient, sustainable features.  Each residence has mechanical fresh air circulation and individual air/heat controls.
